The Winchester Planning Commission reviewed a site plan for a proposed Royal Farms convenience store this past Tuesday. However, they were hesistant to approve the it. Their hesistancy concerned a question of whether if a site plan meets all of the city's requirements for by-right construction, should the project still be the subject of a public hearing? Supervalu, the parent company of Shop 'n Save, confirmed Monday that the grocery store on Fairfax Pike in Stephens City VA will close March 3. No other store local store closings have been announced. Sales from SuperValu's wholesale operations are now approximately 75 percent of its total annual sales, up from approximately 44 percent only two years ago, the company said Wednesday in a news release.  Read more about the closing in this article from the Northern Virginia Daily.
